CRIME WATCH ALERT: September 12, 2024

The Crafton Police Department was made aware of a resident that was contacted by a male claiming to be from the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department. The male caller impersonating an officer stated that there was a warrant for the victim’s arrest and he needed to go to the Giant Eagle and deposit money into a machine to satisfy the fine and avoid getting arrested. The caller ID displayed the correct phone number for the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department. There are many apps out there that can be used to change the caller ID to whatever phone number the user wants.

Please be aware that law enforcement agencies will never ask you to satisfy a warrant or fine by paying with gift cards, Venmo, Bitcoin, or any other form of digital payment.

Please report any incidents immediately to the Crafton Police Department.

Residents are reminded to ALWAYS lock your vehicles and do NOT leave anything of value in your vehicle.

Several neighboring communities have had thefts from vehicles recently along with multiple vehicles stolen.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLES UNLOCKED OR LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR VEHICLE.

ALWAYS REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY AND/OR PEOPLE IMMEDIATELY TO 911.
