About Us
Crafton Borough, established in 1892, is a full service municipality that shares a border with - and provides convenient access to - the City of Pittsburgh. Two unique business districts are surrounded by neighborhoods ranging from mid-century modern to Victorian charm. The Borough’s population recently grew to just over 6,000 residents in part due to the Borough’s quality neighborhoods, diverse businesses, good schools, public services, and community amenities.
Looking towards the future, Crafton’s highly walkable historic downtown district, connected to the region via the busway and a well traveled state route, is experiencing a renaissance many as today’s families seek out traditional main street shopping and social experiences close to home.

Community Center
Crafton Community Center was opened in the Spring of 1995, and is located at 140 Bradford Avenue , adjacent to the Crafton Municipal Building It houses the Library, Crafton Historical Society, Community meeting and banquet room, as well as the Edward A. Witt Council Chambers. The Community meeting room is available for use by the various youth groups, Senior Citizen programs and public rental. For use and rental information, contact the Borough’s Administrative office.
History
Crafton is named after James S. Craft, a frontier attorney who was granted land near the "forks of the Ohio" in present-day Oakland. The sale of this land part financed purchases of land in the Chartiers valley. Charles Craft, son of James, divided the land into lots on the death of his father and submitted it to the Allegheny County Courthouse as Crafton. Following a period of building, the borough was incorporated in 1892, with Charles as the first burgess.
Crafton was linked to downtown Pittsburgh by trolley in 1896. The service ended when the Fort Pitt Bridge was built without trolley tracks.
Crafton was rated as being the best place to raise children in Pennsylvania, according to Bloomberg Businessweek's "Best Places to Raise Your Kids 2011."
