Crime Watch Alert: December 17, 2019

The Crafton Police Department took a report on this date from a resident who received a scam email.  The sender advised the resident that she won a grant but needed to send $6,000 to complete the transaction.  No money or personal information was provided to the sender of this email.

No legitimate company will ask you to send money in order to collect a grant or prize money.  Do NOT fall victim to these types of scams.  Please advise your neighbors and family of this type of scam.  Senior citizens are typically targeted and tend to fall victim to these types of scams.  The other favorite scam phone call is that your grandchild has been arrested and the caller requests that you send money to help pay their legal fees or bail money.  The Social Security Administration will never call you to solicit money from you or tell you that there are legal actions being taken against you.  These too are scams.  The Social Security Administration will contact you via mail.

-PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOCK YOUR VEHICLE(S) AND RESIDENCES ALL OF THE TIME.

-RESIDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY UPON OBSERVING A SUSPICIOUS PERSON OR SOMETHING THAT APPEARS TO BE SUSPICIOUS.

-IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING (Please call 911 immediately, not later)

Remember if it seems too good to be true.  It probably is.
