CRIME WATCH ALERT: APRIL 28, 2020 #2

The Crafton Police Department has taken 2 reports over the past two days of email scams/fraud/extortion. The sender of the email says that they have your password and list the password itself. In both cases, the password listed was or has been used by the receiver of the email. The sender then goes on to attempt to extort money from the receiver by having them send Bit-Coins in order for the sender to not forward lewd pictures/videos to the receiver's family, friends or social media contacts. These are all scams and online complaints can be filed with the PA Attorney General's Office and/or the FCC. Residents can also file a police report with this department if you feel the need to.

Residents are strongly encouraged to use different passwords for each of your accounts, whether they be financial institutions, schools, social media and email accounts to name a few. If you receive some type of email like this it is a good idea to clear your "cookies, " run a virus, malware and/or ransom ware scan. After that then it is a good idea to change your password.

-PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOCK YOUR VEHICLE(S) AND RESIDENCES ALL OF THE TIME.

-RESIDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY UPON OBSERVING A SUSPICIOUS PERSON OR SOMETHING THAT APPEARS TO BE SUSPICIOUS.

-IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING (Please call 911 immediately, not later)

Remember if it seems too good to be true. It probably is.
