Crime Watch Alert: December 4, 2020

Two residents reported receiving SCAM phone calls today in an attempt to obtain the resident’s social security number. In one of the calls, the caller stated that they were from the Social Security Administration after the resident returned a phone call a voice message that she received. The resident questioned the caller as to why he needed her social security number and the caller became hostile and angry towards the resident. No information was provided to the caller.

In the second incident the resident did provide his name and social security number to the caller/”representative.” The “representative” was described as being a male with a Middle Eastern accent. The “representative” told the resident that he owed money and if he did not pay then he would be arrested.

NEVER, EVER provide your information to someone who calls you. The Social Security Administration and other legitimate companies and authorities will not call you to obtain your information. When in doubt, hang up and contact the Crafton Police Department for assistance. Do NOT return phone calls to these folks either if they leaver you a voice mail. Also please speak to older family members and neighbors and advise them of these scams as the callers typically target the elderly.
